We use the phrase "it turns out" to express something that is not expected.

Notice the following:

1) It turns out the movie is free. We don't have to pay.

not only but also 와 as well as 사용법 및 차이점

not only, but also 사용법

Not only A but also B

5. As well as는 문장과 문장을 연결하기 위해 쓰지 않는다.
6. only 자리에 비슷한 뜻을 가진 just, merely, alone로 바꿔서 쓸 수 있다.

He can play not only the guitar but also the violin.

첫번째! not only 명사 but also 명사 의 형태

1) She has not only beauty but also culture.
2) They eat not only food but also glue, paint, clothes, wallpaper, and even plastic.
3) Water is not only the most common substance on Earth but also one of the most unusual

She is not only beautiful but also wise.

두번째! not only 형용사 but also 형용사의 형태

1) It is not only unhealthy but also wasteful.
2) They are not only funny but also good-looking.

He not only teaches us but also understands us well.

세번째! not only to+동사원형 but also to+동사원형 의 형태

2) In traveling around America, a tourist has the opportunity not only to visit a variety of places and see diverse landscapes but to taste a variety of foods as well.
3) In traveling around America, a tourist has the opportunity not only to visit a variety of places and see diverse landscapes but to taste a variety of foods as well.

not onlybut also 가 두 개의 문장을 연결할 때 not only 의 위치는 동사 앞이다.

She not only forgot his birthday, but she also didn’t say "Sorry" for forgetting it.

네번째! not only 전치사 but also 전치사

1) He is fluent not only in English but also in French.
2) And its influence reaches not only to(전치사) the technical fields of computer communications but throughout(전치사) society as we move toward increasing use of online tools to accomplish electronic commerce, information acquisition, and community operations.

다섯번째! note only 동사원형 but also 동사원형

1) Boiling water with a tea bag will not only make water more drinkable
but also more nutritious. ->> but also 다음 make water가 생략

As well as

B as well as A는

He as well as you has the right to work.

He is kind as well as handsome.

Not only he but also you love her.
you 에 맞춰서 love.

He as well as you loves her.

not only, but also 강조와 도치

He not just saw her but he also said hello to her.
Not just did he see her but he also said hello to her.

Not only was it raining all day at the ceremony but also the band was late.

완전한 두 개의 문장을 as well as로 연결 할 수 없다

They manage the budget as well as ordering the necessary equipment.

She introduced her friends to the man. + She was engaged to him

she introduced her friends to the man to whom shoe was engaged.

She introduced her friends to the man whom she was engaged to

We attended a convention at which everyone exchanged business cards

(= at the convention)

This is the examination for which I've been preparing.

(for the examination)

She introduced her friends to the man to that she was engaged (->whom)

This is the suspect to whom the police asked many questions.

in which (=where)

The town where Jane lives is quite rural

The town that Jane live is in is quite rural

The town in which Jane lives is quite rural.

The beach where we found that boat is on the south side of the lake.

The beach that we found that boast in is on the south side of the lake.

The apartment where Jack stays has a nice view of the city.

The apartment that Jack stays in has a nice view of the city.

The apartments in which Jack stays has a nice view of the city.

Dundas Square, which is in Totronto, is a popular tourist attraction.

Queen Margherita, which is in Dundas West, is my favorite pizzeria.

Jack's house, which is next to mine, has a beautiful garden.

Dundas Square, where many tourists go, is a fun place to visit.

Queen Margherita, where you can get amazing pizza, is always crowded.

Jack's house, where I met Jane for the first time, is located in North York.

of whom

Tom is the student of whom Jack is proud.

-> Tom is the student. Jack is proud of the student.

of which

This is a play, the style of which is typical of the period. (of which ,이것의 또는 그것의

The house has now been repaired. + Its roof was damaged.

= The house whose roof was damaged has now been repaired.

= The house the roof of which was damaged has now been repaired.

= The house of which the roof was damaged has now been repaired.

The house whose roof is covered with snow is beautiful.

= The house the roof of which is covered with snow is beautiful.

= The house of which the roof is covered with snow is beautiful.

on which

My hobby is photograph, on which I spend most of my spare time.

-> My hobby is photograph. I spend most of my spare time on photograph.

The man has two sons, who are doctors.

The man has two sons who are doctors.

The man has two sons who are doctors.

The professor who teaches English 101 is an excellent lecturer.

The professor is an excellent lecturer. (?)  (The professer? = who?)

Professor David, who teaches Physics, 101 is an excellent lecturer.

관계형용사 what

what + 명사 + (S) + V = all (of) the 명사 that + (S) + V ~

-> I gave him what money I had

-> I have him all the money that I had

I gave him all the money. + I had money.
= I gave him all the money that I had.
= I gave him what money I had.

의문형용사 what

Please tell me~.+ What sports do you like?
= Please tell me what sports you like?

on the basis of vs based on

1.

a) Employers may not discriminate on the basis of race or sex.

b) Employers may not discriminate based on race or sex.

Only a) is correct.

2.

a) Discrimination based on race or sex is forbidden by law.

b) Discrimination on the basis of race or sex is forbidden by law.

Both are correct, but by convention, b) is used most often.

3.

a) The movie was based on Einstein's life.

b) The movie was on the basis of Einstein's life.

Only a) is correct.

on the basis of는 무엇에 근거한 주장이나 행동에 좀더 적합하다.

assure, ensure, insure

assure ~을 확인하다 (make sure). (convince)

표현: assure 사람 + that

I can assure you that neither of our two goalkeepers will be leaving 'Lena' said.

(guarantee)

표현: ensure + that

His reputation was enough to ensure that he was always welcome

I shall try to insure that your stay is a pleasant one.

insure your baggage before you leave home.

in terms of ~ 관해서

아래의 네가지 것들중에서는 with (in) regard to가 의미상 좀 더 about과 의미가 유사 하다.

with (in) regard to

with respect to

regarding

concerning

Tell me which courses you will take.

Why did you do that?

Did anybody see you?)

이 때, If나 whether 뜻은 -인지 or -인지, 아닌지..

Do you know if/whether anybody saw you?

Think, believe, imagine, suppose, suggest
